Story time returns Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 10 a.m. and will continue through Wednesday, Dec. 4. Story time is each Tuesday and Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the library's East room.
Bilingual Story Time premieres with Miss Diana Thursday, Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. Disguising learning as fun, Miss Diana will engage patrons of all ages as she teaches some Spanish and rocks the library to Tooty Ta! This is a story time event you do not want to miss!
The library will continue to team up with Human Animal Bond, Inc. to provide the popular "Read to the Dog" program monthly. The amazing therapy dogs and owners volunteer their time and give children of all ages blocks of non-judgmental time to read or picture walk through a book. Always a favorite program in the library, be sure to stay tuned for more information.
Young adult programming starts off with a bang, so to speak, with the return of Open MIC Night on Friday, Aug. 2 beginning at 6 p.m. Open MIC Night is open to songs, bands, poetry reading, theater, comedy, prose, and ??? So long as you keep it clean, and you are between 14 and 22 years, the stage is yours. We invite the world to come and enjoy local talent.
For adults we have Kansas author Judith McCoy Miller, who co-authors with Tracie Peterson, coming Sunday, Sept. 8 at 3 p.m. Judith's second book in her Home to Amana series, A Simple Change, hits bookstores in mid-August and is the story of a young woman who moves from Kansas City to the Amana Colonies. Judith will spend the afternoon discussing the Amana Colonies in Iowa and how they have inspired her stories. Mark your calendar for this inspirational afternoon.
Leavenworth's annual Buffalo Bill Days kicks off on Friday, Sept. 13. Well, of course the library is going to get you in the festive mood by having, what else but "Hat Day at Your Library" on Thursday, Sep.12. Just what is "Hat Day"? Library staff will dress up in hats and the public gets to drop by and judge which hat they like the best. There is a twist though, remember this is the library . . . All of the library staff who wish to participate will be wearing a mustache you get to judge too. We will announce the winners of the hat and mustache contests at the Buffalo Bill Days Bake Off the library is sponsoring. Look for rules for the Bake Off to come out soon!
Sunday, Sept. 15, the library pairs with First Taste Olive Oils & Vinegars for a "Cozy" event. Beginning at 2 p.m. in Missie Darnley's establishment located at 412 Delaware, guests can dip and sip vinegar and oil pairings, wine & cheese pairings, and pair everything with a cozy mystery or two. What a way to wrap up Buffalo Bill Days! Hope we see you there!
Page 2 of 2 - Rounding out the month, the library hosts "All About Home Brewing" in partnership with Bacchus & Barleycorn Ltd. of Shawnee, Kansas. Bacchus & Barleycorn Ltd. has been in business since 1968 and are experts on home brewing. If you already brew at home, or if you have an interest in this growing hobby, be sure to join us at 7 p.m. for a spirited evening.
It is our pleasure to be your Leavenworth Public Library staff! As always, we look forward to talking books with you soon.
