I have grown up rooting against anything Kansas, and now I live here. Since I grew up in Fulton, Mo., which is about 20 miles away from Columbia, Mo., I have cheered for the Missouri Tigers and the St. Louis Cardinals. Now here I am in Kansas, Kansas State and Royals country. Of course I can't forget the Chiefs, but I will get to that later. I never had much against the Royals or Kansas State growing up. The Cardinals-Royals rivalry never really settled in with me. I actually go for the Royals when they aren't playing St. Louis. I did get into the Mizzou-Kansas rivalry, though, so the move to the SEC for Missouri meant there may not be too much more to the rivalry. One moment that stands out is the 2007 matchup at Arrowhead. It was the path to the BCS Championship game, but the significance of the game was diminished by Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship game. It was a game that saw plenty of scoring ,but still had the feel of an old school physical battle to the end. Moments like that may have come to an end. I know my feeling against Kansas are not as strong. Without them being in the same conference, there isn't much rivalry there. Anyway, I'll stop my tangent on Missouri vs. Kansas. I recently graduated from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo. with a journalism degree. I spent three of my four years there as a sports reporter and editor for the campus newspaper called The Muleskinner. I was also a member of the UCM Media Network, which webcasted UCM sporting events. I was at every sporting event I could be at, whether it was on the webcast crew or covering it to post a story online. I quickly found out that I wanted a job that would require me to attend sporting events. This thought was strengthened when I started announcing Warrensburg High School football and basketball games last fall. Here I am getting ready for a fall season of sports in Kansas. Lets get to the Chiefs issue I mentioned earlier. When I was really young, I decided I liked the Oakland Raiders logo. Ever since then I have been a fan of them. For at least the past few years I have been going to the Chiefs-Raiders game. I have to admit, Arrowhead Stadium is a great place to watch a football game, even when neither team is doing very good. I may not like your team, but I respect Chiefs fans and I look forward to my time in Leavenworth.
