  • A man was taken to the hospital after he was extricated from a vehicle following an accident in Leavenworth, a police spokesman said.
The accident was reported shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday at 10th and Ottawa streets.
An 18-year-old Leavenworth man was driving east on Ottawa in a full-size Dodge pickup truck. He allegedly failed to yield the right of way at the intersection and struck the driver's door of a northbound Ford Mustang, according to Police Chief Pat Kitchens.
The Mustang's driver, a 31-year-old Leavenworth man, was extricated from the vehicle by members of the Leavenworth Fire Department.
Acting Fire Chief Mark Nietzke said firefighters cut off a door from the vehicle to extricate the driver.
Kitchens said the driver of the Mustang was transported by Leavenworth County EMS to the University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kan., for injuries that weren't considered life-threatening.
The driver of the pickup truck was cited for allegedly failing to yield the right of way, according to Kitchens.
