  • What is it? Work has started to repave 10th Avenue between Michigan and Vilas streets.
Explanation: The work began Monday. The project, which will include milling and patching, will address deteriorating pavement on a well-traveled roadway, according to city spokeswoman Melissa Bower.
Plans call for the center turning lane to be closed first, with the work then moving to the other lanes. City officials plan to keep two lanes open during most of the project.
The project should take three to four weeks. The cost for the re-pavement project is about $300,000.
The project site is in the vicinity of Leavenworth High School. Classes will resume Aug. 13.
Bower said city officials have been keeping school district officials informed about the project.
There are two other projects that also may affect traffic on 10th Avenue near Leavenworth High School. Manholes are being fixed between Quincy and Kansas streets. And sidewalks are being replaced between Ohio and Michigan streets.
Bower recommends that people who drive on 10th Avenue plan accordingly.
