While taking a quick read of Twitter earlier today, I saw a Tweet that mentioned that Fox was looking to develop a show based on the life of Sam and Mariah Calagione, the founders of Dogfish Head Craft Brewed Ales.
Intrigued, I wanted to find out if this is true, so I shot an email out to Sam Calagione. He said the planning is in the early stages, but did share a note he sent to the brewery staff about the show.
The show will use Calagione’s book, “Brewing Up a Business” and the story of Dogfish Head’s early days as the back-story for a Fox Network sitcom.
Calagione’s friends Erica Oyama Marino and Ken Marino, the letter to employees said, are writing the pilot. Calagione and Marino are former roommates, and actually helped paint the original Rehoboth brewpub before it opened.
“It will be fun for me to work with them on this show as the brewing/story consultant,” said Calagione in the note to employees. “They both love and respect great beer and beer will be a major theme in the show but its mostly about a boot-strapping mom and pop couple and company having fun and living through the challenges so many entrepreneurs face. Cheers! Sam ”
Calagione said the brewery on the show would not be called Dogfish Head and would be a fictional brewery.
When there are more details, I’ll let you all know.
