  • An excavator struck a natural gas line causing a leak Thursday in northwest Leavenworth, a Fire Department spokesman said.
No injuries were reported. The incident was reported shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday at 1004 N. 11th St.
Assistant Fire Chief Mike Lingenfelser said a private contractor was digging at that location when the line was struck.
No residents were at the home where the work was being performed. And no one was home at a neighboring house that also could have been affected by the gas leak, Lingenfelser said.
He said firefighters used monitoring equipment to check gas levels in the area and remained at the scene until Kansas Gas Service personnel clamped off the line around the leak.
Lingenfelser said the leak was from a low pressure line.
Thursday's incident came a day after a natural gas leak in the 1600 block of Limit Street. That leak had resulted in the evacuation of four homes.
