Richard “TJ” Tjaden, 72, of Leavenworth, died, Aug. 15, 2013.
Richard "TJ" Tjaden, 72, of Leavenworth, died, Aug. 15, 2013. He was born April 4, 1941, in Salem Township, Mo., the son of Albert E. and Margaret A. (Sharpe) Tjaden.
He met his wife, Juliet M. Laborde, in Louisiana, where they married in 1965 and have shared a joyous 48 years together. She survives at the home. He is also survived by a daughter, Melissa A. (Willie) Lough, a son, Duane J. Tjaden, and two sisters, Ida Mae Byers and Alberta Lindsey.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, a younger brother at birth, Raymond Lee Tjaden, and a older brother, Emerson Tjaden.
He was a retired Master Sergeant of 21 years in the U.S. Army. Serving in Alaska, Vietnam, Germany, Korea, Ft. Belvoir, Ft. Polk and retired from Ft. Leavenworth. He is also retired from Kansas Power and Light of Leavenworth.
He has been a tremendous father, husband and friend to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
