Many patients dread stepping on the scales at their annual check-up. “Unfortunately, obesity and related diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes, are some of the most prevalent problems we see,” says Lisa Madsen, M.D., Providence Medical Group.
In fact, according to the Mid-America Regional Council, nearly 32 percent of all Leavenworth County residents are obese. Nine percent of the population over age 20 has been diagnosed with diabetes.
“These are definitely two health issues that require the ongoing management and guidance a primary care provider can offer,” Dr. Madsen adds. “At an annual check-up, we can assess whether your current weight is healthy, and help you understand the importance of making healthier lifestyle choices, like exercising more, eating less or differently and stopping smoking.”
