  • A Leavenworth woman scared off a burglar when she confronted him as he attempted to break into her home, a police spokesman said.
The incident was reported at 9:42 a.m. Thursday at a residence in the 2200 block of Wilson Avenue. No injuries were reported.
The 54-year-old victim told police she saw a man throw a brick at her front door. This broke a window in the door. The suspect then reached through the broken window to unlock the door, according to Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.
"She confronted him and the suspect ran away," Nicodemus said.
The suspect never made it inside the residence, and the incident is being classified as a case of attempted aggravated burglary.
Police were unable to locate a man fitting the suspect's description.
Nicodemus said the suspect was described as a black man who's in his 30s. He has a shaved head and mustache.
He drove away from the scene in what was described as a white four-door sedan.
Nicodemus said the victim described the car as being an older model vehicle, possibly from the 1980s.
