Brittani Felix, 21, was sentenced in Leavenworth County District Court for a felony charge of battery of a law enforcement officer, according to County Attorney Todd Thompson.
The crime occurred Feb. 21. A Leavenworth police officer had responded to a reported theft of a vehicle and was placing Felix in handcuffs. Felix reportedly turned around and punched the officer in the face.
Felix pleaded guilty to the battery July 31 and provided an apology note to the officer.
Thompson said Felix admitted in court Wednesday that she had a substance abuse problem but is now in treatment and will continue treatment.
Thompson said the battery charge typically would have been a misdemeanor, but it was a felony because of the bodily harm caused.
