A man has been charged for allegedly robbing a Leavenworth convenience store at knifepoint, a prosecution official said.
Donail Foster, 35, is charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping, according to County Attorney Todd Thompson.
He was arrested Sunday morning. He is accused of robbing Woody's Gas Express, 1031 Metropolitan Ave. A 22-year-old clerk at the store reportedly suffered cuts as result of a struggle during the robbery. He was treated at a hospital and released, according to Lt. Chris Kear of the Leavenworth Police Department.
The incident was reported at 8:20 a.m. Sunday.
Kear said the clerk had been approached by someone in a disguise. Kear did not provide additional details about the disguise.
The suspect reportedly was armed with a knife and went around the store counter. He allegedly demanded money from the clerk.
"The clerk gave him some money and then eventually gave him the whole cash drawer," Kear said.
The struggle ensued and the suspect eventually left the store, according to Kear.
About the time officers arrived at the scene of the robbery, police received a report of a car accident in the 900 block of Cheyenne Street.
Kear said an eastbound Dodge Charger reportedly had struck several parked vehicles.
Kear said the driver of the Charger was seen carrying items from his car into an alley. Witnesses reported the driver, who turned out to be Foster, placed items in an open shed located off of the alley.
Foster reportedly returned to his vehicle. In the shed, officers found a cash drawer that's believed to have been the one taken during the robbery. Police also found a jacket that's believed to have been worn by the suspect during the robbery, Kear said.
Witnesses also reported to police that Foster attempted to hide a knife in the ground near his car.
"He had stabbed it into the ground," Kear said.
Police recovered the knife, which they believe was the one used in the robbery.
Kear said the kidnapping allegation stems from the clerk reportedly being detained by the suspect during the robbery.
