  • A prison inmate was convicted Monday of battering a correctional officer last year at the Lansing Correctional Facility, according to a prosecution official.
Keontae Peters, 22, was convicted at the conclusion of jury trial in Leavenworth County District Court. Peters is now incarcerated at the El Dorado Correctional Facility. The crime occurred May 10, 2012, while he was at LCF, according to County Attorney Todd Thompson.
Peters reportedly became involved in an argument with a correctional officer that concerned him not having proper prison identification. Words were exchanged and Peters reportedly punched the officer, fracturing the officer’s nose.
Peters had been eligible for release from prison as early as September 2015. But he is now facing a possible additional sentence of 31 to 136 months depending on his criminal history.
Sentencing for the battery against a correctional officer charge is scheduled for Oct. 11.
