Bruce and Mike Helm place a brisket on aluminum foil Friday afternoon during the second annual Hog Wild West Barbecue Contest at Fourth and Cherokee Streets. The brothers are members of Helmies Barbecue, one of the teams competing in the contest.
Friday was the first of two days of the barbecue contest, which was organized by the Leavenworth Main Street Program. It's scheduled to resume today at 10 a.m. and wrap up 11 p.m.
Other activities are scheduled as part of the contest including live music and bounce houses. A People's Choice Tasting is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. The cost for the tasting is $5 per person.
