  • An organizer for this year's Buffalo Bill Days said the festival "came off beautifully."
"We'll do it again next year," said Cricket Pugh, one of the main organizers for the festival.
Pugh said many of the organizations that were selling food to raise money ran out of food during the festival.
The festival was Saturday and Sunday on Sixth Street and at Haymarket Square.
Pugh said rain slowed down the number of visitors Sunday.
"We still did have a good amount of people," she said, especially after a Kansas City Chiefs game had ended.
This was the first year Pugh served as an organizer for the annual community festival. The festival previously had been organized through the Leavenworth Main Street Program. But this year, the event was handled by other community volunteers.
Pugh said Brandi Bond was the other main organizer for this year's festival.
"I've never done anything on this grand of a scale," Pugh said.
The Main Street Program still hosted a barbecue contest Friday and Saturday.
Pugh believes the fact the other event also was held in downtown Leavenworth caused some confusion for patrons. And she said organizers of Buffalo Bill Days want to have their festival on a different weekend next year to avoid confusion.
Next year, Pugh said, organizers plan to have Buffalo Bill Days on the same weekend as the annual Buffalo Bill Century Ride for cyclists.
