Leavenworth police are investigating two shootings that occurred on the same night only a few blocks apart. No one was injured in the shootings, but the bullets caused damage to a residence and vehicles, a police spokesman said.
The shootings occurred Sunday night but were not reported to police until the next day. One shooting occurred around 11 p.m. Sunday in the 900 block of Kiowa Street. The other occurred around 11:45 p.m. in the 1200 block of Kiowa Street.
Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department, said police are exploring whether the two shootings are related. He said there seems to be no connection between the two victims other than they were the targets of shootings.
In both cases, the victims said they'd heard loud noises but didn't notice the damage from the shootings until the next morning.
At the scene in the 900 block of Kiowa, the trunk lid of a 2003 Cadillac CTS was damaged in the shooting as well as the rear hatch of a 2009 Chevrolet Traverse.
At the scene in the 1200 block of Kiowa, a bullet passed through a window.
"It struck a pillow on the bed," Nicodemus said.
No one was in the the room at the time.
