Immaculata volleyball went 2-2 at the Hiawatha tournament on Saturday.
The Lady Raiders got wins over Doniphan West and Hiawatha and lost to B&B Baileyville and Jefferson County North.
Immaculata lost 25-18 and 25-10 to B&B Baileyville to start the tournament.
“They got us out of system and we struggled to attack,” said Immaculata head coach Wendy Sachen. “They just out hit us.”
The day improved for the Lady Raiders by winning 25-8 and 25-22 against Doniphan West, and taking a three-set match from Hiawatha 12-25, 25-22 and 25-18.
“We came back strong as the day went on,” Sachen said. “I am very pleased with the girls for keeping their heads up and working together as a team.”
The final match for the Lady Raiders was against JCN.
“You're always going to see a great match when these two teams go head to head,” Sachen said.
JCN was up six in the first set, but Sachen said a block by junior Ellie Wolk led to a run by the Lady Raiders to take the first set 25-23.
“Our net defense by Danielle Sachse, Mary Kate Wolken, Ellie Wolk and Sarah O'Neil was ruthless,” Sachen said. “Not always getting the block for a point, but just enough to cause panic and mishaps on the other side of the net. The Raiders covered the floor really well with noted strong defensive play by Grace Parker and Emily Nine in this match.”
JCN won the next two sets 25-17 and 25-20, giving them the win over Immaculata.
O'Neil lead the team in kills 20 for the tournament.
Junior Katie Gillespie had 17 and freshman Ally Campbell got 14.
Juniors Parker and O'Neil led the team with 45 and 28 digs, respectively.
The Lady Raiders will take their 10-3 overall record and 5-1 league record into Tuesday's home matches against McLouth and Horton at 5 p.m.
