Two women were arrested after they allegedly burglarized a shed and then tried to break into a Leavenworth home, a police spokesman said.
Police were contacted shortly after 12:30 a.m. Sunday after a woman reported hearing a window break at her home in the 700 block of Frank Street, according to Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.
Police located two Topeka women in that area who were in possession of a gas can that reportedly had been taken from the victim's shed.
Nicodemus said the suspects, ages 26 and 21, are alleged to have broken into the shed, which is located in the victim's back yard. After removing the can of gasoline, the suspects allegedly broke a window at the house but were unable to get inside the residence.
When police searched a car belonging to the 26-year-old woman, they reportedly found prescription drugs that had not been prescribed to either suspect.
The women were arrested for allegations of attempted aggravated burglary, burglary, criminal damage to property, theft and drug possession.
