The St. Joseph, Mo., Police Department has taken over the investigation into the death of a man whose body was found last week in the Leavenworth area, a local police official said.

The St. Joseph, Mo., Police Department has taken over the investigation into the death of a man whose body was found last week in the Leavenworth area, a local police official said.

The body of Jason Davies, 38, St. Joseph, was recovered Sept. 19 from the Missouri River by Leavenworth firefighters and a police officer.

Leavenworth Police Chief Pat Kitchens released Davies' name Wednesday and said the case was being investigated as a homicide.

Kitchens said Thursday that the case formally had been turned over to the St. Joseph authorities.
