Lisa Weakley serves on the board of directors of the Heritage Center. She answered questions about a fashion show that will benefit the center. The event will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Heritage Center, 109 Delaware St.
1 How did the planning for the fashion show get started?
About every other year My Speece, the owner of My Design, a women's clothing store at 322 Santa Fe, Leavenworth, puts on a fashion show to benefit a local charitable organization. Each time she likes to select a different charity to support. This time it will be a fundraiser to benefit the Heritage Center. A modest donation of $10 is given for a ticket to attend the show. The event will begin at 6 p.m. and go until 8 p.m. on Saturday Sept. 28. There will be refreshments, music and vendors selling items in keeping with the women's fashion theme.
2 What type of fashions will be featured at the fashion show?
My's fashions consists of two piece outfits, dresses, tops, skirts and pants and jackets. My Design is known for hand dyed outfits in linen, silk and jersey knit. She also designs clothing by special request. Her range includes designs for any and every occasion. Just bring her a picture of a desired item and she can create a unique design custom made for you.
In her own words: "My design has allowed my talent to expand even more with the variety of individuals that have visited the store. I enjoy designing beautiful clothes to complement all women."
3 Who will be modeling the fashions during the show?
There will be about 19 models that will present 30 unique outfits. These ladies are among My's devoted clientele. Many of them have modeled for her in past fashion shows. All of the models will be donating their time. Their hair and make- up will be done by Tom & Ann's Hair Colorists and coaching will be done by Deena Shoyer. Both of these sponsors are also donating their time and talents as well.
4 The event will benefit the Heritage Center. What is the Heritage Center?
The Heritage Center is an event/senior center located at 109 Delaware in downtown Leavenworth. There is approximately 9,000 square feet that can be used for various functions such as weddings and receptions, business and club meetings, birthday parties, etc. Catering services, a stage and sound system are available for the various functions. The center regularly has country music, dancing and dinner, gospel shows and other events to help raise money. The money raised from these functions is used to support the seniors' weekly activities, such as pot luck luncheons and monthly club meetings.
The center is a not-for-profit organization, receiving no government funding, relying on donations and fundraisers to support their senior programs.
