  • For about 67 minutes, the Raiders were either tied or had the lead against Heritage Christian on Thursday, but two quick goals in the second half gave HCA the 2-1 win. Immaculata led 1-0 after sophomore Mark Hernandez scored with five minutes left in the first half, but HCA put in two goals with 13 minutes left in the game. Head coach Frank Mazeitis said he had to put in a couple of substitutes because of injuries before the two goals were scored. “That's right where they went through,” Mazeitis said. “The subs we put in.” The second goal snuck into the lower left corner just past the goalkeeper's hands. HCA's offense put pressure on the Raiders most of the game, but the defense and senior goalkeeper Phillip Hernandez was able to hold them off most of the game. Hernandez ended up with 19 saves, including grabbing a couple of HCA corner kicks early in the second half. Mazeitis said his defensive players are the reason for their 5-2-1 record. “Nathan (Reardon) and Jaxon (Qualley) have just stepped up tremendously,” he said. “They have just matured and grown and the will to win in these kids is there.” Mazeitis went on to say HCA is probably the best team they will play all season. “We can match up with anybody in this area,” he said. “I didn't say we would win all the time, but we will match up against anybody.” HCA controlled the ball most of the game, but the Raiders did have some chances at the goal. Senior James Cha's shot went wide right a minute after Hernandez's goal in the first half. Sophomore Dawson Schroeder had a shot at the goal early in the second half, but it went wide left. The Raiders will host KC East Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
