  • A Lansing Correctional Facility inmate allegedly walked away from a work site Friday afternoon only to turn himself in the following morning.
Zackary B. Conger, 32, was reported absent from a work site without authorization around 4 p.m. Friday. Conger was part of an inmate crew working at Laser Apparel in Overland Park, according to LCF spokesman Brett Peterson.
Conger reportedly turned himself in at a Lenexa police station around 9:45 a.m. Saturday.
"He just walked in," Peterson said.
Conger has been returned to LCF.
Prison officials had announced to the media Friday that Conger was missing, and reported the next day that he was back in custody.
He is serving a 78-month prison sentence for four counts of burglary as well as forgery and theft. The crimes occurred in 2009 and 2011 in Butler and Sedgwick counties, according to information posted on a Kansas Department of Corrections website.
His earliest possible release date is April 17, 2016, but this doesn't take into account additional time he could face for reportedly leaving the work site.
Conger had been a minimum custody inmate at the time he was reported missing Friday.
Peterson said Monday that Conger is now in segregation at the prison.
