After going 16-4, Lansing tennis won the De Soto Wildcat Invitational on Tuesday. Leavenworth went 13-7 as a team to claim third place. Lansing got big wins over second-place KC Christian from No. 2 singles player Colby Mortensen and both doubles teams of Sydney Chiles and Rachel Long, and Loreal Brown and Bailey Zinser. “Without one of those victories, we finish behind KCC as a team,” said Lansing head coach Eddie Fenton. Brown and Zinser got an 8-5 win over KC Christian to finish Lansing's day. “Loreal and Bailey really handled the pressure of being the last match, and playing the match that would decide if we finished first or second,” Fenton said. No. 1 singles player Katie Rathjen and No. 2 singles player Mortensen combined to go 9-1 on the day. Leavenworth had strong performances from both doubles teams to help them finish third as a team. The No. 1 doubles team of Sydney Lundy and Megan Brucker, and the No. 2 doubles team of Shannon Sullivan and Leah Messer each went 4-1. No. 1 singles player Megan Kelley went 2-3, while No. 2 singles player Annika Wolff went 3-2. Leavenworth hosts the Sunflower League Meet on Thursday, while Lansing is at Topeka West on Saturday.
