1. The University of Saint Mary Fine Arts Department will be hosting an opening reception for a group art exhibit in Goppert Gallery at the university's main campus, 4100 S. Fourth St. The reception will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at the gallery. The exhibit then will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays through Nov. 8. Admission is free.
2. The exhibit will feature the works of four artists — Elizabeth Hill, whose featured artwork is black and white photography; Sister Pam Hinkle, ceramics; Mary Ellen Maxwell, mixed media; and Carolyn Singleton, painting and printmaking.
3. Hill graduated from Saint Mary in 2008. Hinkle also is a Saint Mary alum and the Sisters of Charity artist-in-residence. Maxwell is a recipient of a USM honorary doctorate for her role as co-founder of the Carnegie Arts Center, which was a resource for the arts in Leavenworth for 25 years. Singleton is a former director of the Carnegie Arts Center.
