  • A rural Leavenworth County man was taken to the hospital after his car was struck by a train Sunday morning in Linwood, according to a report from the Sheriff's Office.
The accident was reported shortly after 6 a.m. Sunday on Main Street in Linwood. The 31-year-old man had been driving north in a 2009 Honda Civic when he attempted to cross railroad tracks. The car went off the side of the road at the railroad crossing and became stuck, according to the report.
The vehicle was struck by an eastbound train. Evidence indicates the driver of the Honda Civic had not been wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
He was transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center, according to the report.
Authorities believe alcohol was a contributing factor in accident.
