Jessie M. Bietka, 100, of Leavenworth, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at her home. She was born Nov. 15, 1912, in Leavenworth, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Borowski) Bolewski.
On Dec. 31, 1933, Jessie married Vincent Bietka. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a son, Vincent J. Bietka; a grandson, James Bietka; six brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by a daughter, Judy (Wayne) Person of Portland, Ore.; a son, Gary (Rebecca) Bietka of Leavenworth; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Jessie worked at the Wadsworth VA Center, Woolworth’s dime store and as substitute teacher at St. Casimir elementary school. She also owned/operated a grocery store. She was a lifelong member of St. Casimir Catholic parish for more than hundred years and a member of St. Casimir Altar Society. Jessie was an avid fisherman and Royals fan, watching baseball games even in her final days. She also enjoyed gardening, bird watching and cooking, especially her own creations.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. The rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013 at St. Casimir Church, 715 Pennsylvania, Leavenworth, KS.
