Harry A. Cappel, Jr. 73 of Leavenworth, Kan., passed away October 10th, 2013 at his residence with his family by his side. A Service of Remembrance will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, October 16th, 2013 at Belden Larkin Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow the service at 11 a.m., at Leavenworth National Cemetery with full Military Honors.
Harry was born April 4th, 1940 in Pottsville, Pa., the son of Harry A and Florence E. (Barnes) Cappel, Sr. He married Phyllis Dufort (his honey) of 54 years on September 16th, 1959 in Palo Alto, Pa. Harry graduated from high school, and enlisted in the United States Army. He served a tour in Vietnam from 1966 through 1967 and completed three tours in Germany. He retired after 23 years in the Army and made Leavenworth his home. Upon retiring from the Army, he began a second career on the Police Force at the V.A. Hospital in Leavenworth where he retired after a 20-year career.
Harry enjoyed traveling with Phyllis and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, two sons; Harry A. Cappel III, and his wife Sandra, Alvah R. Cappel and his wife Bev, three daughters; Karola A. Karlin and her husband Rodney, Marcelle M. Cappel-Chmidling and her husband Robert, and Elizabeth Cappel Haffner and her husband Jeffrey, seventeen grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren, one brother; Melvin T. Cappel and his wife Rosalind, and two brother in laws; John Chisnell and James Harris, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters Minerva M. Chisnell, Pearl D. Vince, and Victoria Harris.
