In this time of the government shutdown you hear a lot about the negatives. Well, I just wanted to give a positive point.
I was diagnosed with cancer in July 2013. I use the VA in Leavenworth as my primary health care source and I am really tired of hearing negative things. I just required a two-night stay at the VA in Leavenworth and I want to tell you about my experience.
I was having trouble keeping any food down, so I went to the ER as instructed by my radiation physician. I was expecting to just get a couple bags of IV fluids and then go home. But what I received was an experience of a lifetime. When you get diagnosed and have so much pain you tend to want to just give up. But the staff at the VA is so amazingly positive that it is hard to give up.
When I arrived at the ER I was greeted with warm, caring, concerned staff. The attention I received in just the ER alone made me feel as though I was the most important person alive. The efficiency, the attention, the professionalism, the care was outstanding. I was kept well informed of all my treatment options, my test results, possible outcomes and the reasoning behind everything they did.
I felt like crap physically, but mentally they kept me healthy until they were able to bring me physically back to health. The staff on A2 was also amazing. Christina, RN and Marvilla, RN were so professional, attentive, and thorough to my needs. In this time when they are uncertain of whether they will have income for their families they still provided me with the quality care that I have come to know and TRUST with the VA.
I want to thank each and everyone of them from the bottom of my heart. I still have a long way to go to kick this cancer but I am fully confident that I have chosen the right health care professionals to see me through this rough time in my life. Thank you again.
