1. The Alliance Against Family Violence will have its annual candlelight vigil Saturday. The event will begin at 6 p.m. at the organization's headquarters, 522 Kickapoo St. The free event is held each year as an observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The public is invited.
2. Saturday's observance will include musical performances as well as a youth and young adult dance ministry. Sheriff Andy Dedeke will be the guest speaker. A victim of domestic violence also will speak, according to Gloria Swanagan, human resources administrator for the Alliance.
3. Those in attendance will be invited to participant in the candlelight vigil portion of the program. Refreshments will be offered following the vigil.
Why you should attend:
Swanagan said entertainment for the annual event has gotten better each year.
"This is not a fundraiser," she said. "It is a free event."
