1 The annual Halloween Costume Parade and Contest and Great Pumpkin Giveaway is coming up. Tell us about the event.
This event is so much fun and one of the best things that our company does all year. Children and their families are invited to put on their Halloween costumes and come down to The Reilly Company, 608 Delaware, in downtown Leavenworth on Saturday, Oct. 26th at 9:45 in the morning. The parade will actually start at the Farmers Market (Haymarket Square) building on Seventh & Cherokee. The children will be led in the parade by the Leavenworth Fire Department to our building just a few blocks away. When the parade arrives at The Reilly Company, the children will judged for their costumes based on individuals or groups. After the judging, the children can make their way through our pumpkin patch to get their candy, hot apple cider and free pumpkins for everyone.

2 How did the event get started?
The event was started 26 years ago by my father, Jerry Reilly. Our company is very much community minded and he saw this event as just another way of our company giving back to the community and the families that live in our community. Every year, the community tells us how much they love the event and quite honestly, although it’s a lot of work, our staff loves the event as well. It’s just a lot fun for everyone involved.

3 Who is eligible to participate in the costume contest?
The event is fun for the whole family and we encourage everyone to come. However, we will judge costumes for children through the age of 12.
4 What are the criteria for judging the costumes?
There really is not a set criteria for the judging other than we have two separate categories for the prizes, individuals and groups. Other than that, we leave it up to our judges to help award the best costumes. In the past, it’s usually those costumes that are home-made that get a lot of attention.

5 What prizes are awarded for the event?
We award a first, second and third prize for the individual category and the same for the group category. First place = $100 visa gift card, Second place = $75 Visa gift card, Third place = $50 Visa gift card. Plus, everyone gets a free pumpkin and bag of candy and goodies.
