  • The Pleasant Ridge Rams lost 49-0 at Rossville on Tuesday to close out a 5-5 season. The Rams made a one-game improvement from last season. “I think we made lots of strides as a team,” said head coach Pat McCollim. “We are better than we were at this time last year.” It was the second year in a row Rossville beat Pleasant Ridge in the first round of the 3A Kansas State Playoffs. Last year’s score was 41-0. That Rossville team ended up going to the 3A Semi-Finals before losing to Silver Lake. With rain falling off and on all day, McCollim said the field did become an issue with footing. “The field was real muddy,” he said. “It was hard to keep your footing. He (Rossville’s quarterback) was good in the open field. There were times we had people there to make a play, but one move here and there and we were slipping and falling.” McCollim said Rossville ran spread formations to help open things up for the running attack. “We’ve faced spread offenses, but not like they run it,” he said. The Rossville offense was able to be efficient even with the conditions. “We were kind of hoping it would slow them down, but from our prospective it didn’t,” McCollim said. He added that the game plan was to win the time of possession battle to keep the defense fresh, but the Rossville’s defense shutout the Rams. With the 2013 season in the books, it’s time to prepare for 2014. “I think the underclassmen are ready to get back to work, hit the weight room and start getting ready for next year,” McCollim said.
