  • A Leavenworth man awakened Friday morning to find a burglar in his apartment. Using threats, the burglar then took the victim through the apartment asking for money, a police spokesman said.
The incident was reported around 11 a.m. Friday in the 300 block of Kiowa Street. No injuries were reported.
A 22-year-old man reported that he had been sleeping in his apartment. He was awakened by someone who was going through a closet in the apartment, according to Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.
The suspect reportedly asked the victim where money was located as they went through the apartment. The suspect apparently did not have a weapon but he threatened the victim with bodily harm.
The suspect reportedly left the apartment with a laptop computer, a Blu-Ray disc player, two DVDs and a coin bank.
Nicodemus said it appears the suspect had kicked an apartment door in order to gain entry.
The suspect was described as a black man who is about 6 feet 2 inches tall and 300 pounds. He had a goatee. He wore a white beanie hat, a white shirt, white pants and work boots.
