The Spires’ football season ended with a 35-13 loss to Friends University (8-3, 7-2) on Saturday.
Saint Mary ends the 2013 season with a 4-7 overall record and a 3-6 conference record.
The Spires went down 21-0 early in the second quarter after allowing two touchdown runs and a touchdown pass, but got within eight points before halftime.
Jerrell Young caught a 30-yard pass and a 16-yard pass for scores in the final seven minutes of the half to make it 21-13 Friends after the second extra point was no good.
However, Friends would score the final 14 points to win.
Will Ryan had 51 of the Spires’ 113 rushing yards.
Young had three catches for 58 yards to go along with the two scores.
Alex Gomes-Coelho led the Spires in receiving with five catches for 87 yards.
Thomas Grossman went 11-28 for 153 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Dwain Taylor led the Saint Mary defense with 14 tackles.
David Harvey and Ukpono Udi each had seven tackles.
