The Leavenworth Water Department is looking for a new general manager.
The department announced Wednesday that John Kaufman has resigned as the general manager. His resignation was effective Friday.
"I think I've accomplished everything I can," Kaufman said when contacted Wednesday.
Kaufman said he wants to pursue other things.
Kaufman, who'd been with the Water Department since 2008, submitted his resignation to the Water Board during a meeting Nov. 12, board Chairman Michael Bogner said.
Bogner said he's certain the resignation was a surprise "to the staff and everyone involved."
Lesia Hegeman, the Water Department's finance manager, has been named interim general manager. There will be a search for a new general manager.
"And we hope the (search) period will be short," Bogner said.
He said customers shouldn't notice any difference in service as a result of the change in management.
Bogner said each department head is operating as normal, but he acknowledged the finance manager now has more work as the interim general manager.
The Leavenworth Water Department, which does not operate as part of the city government, has a five-member governing board. The members are elected to board by voters in Leavenworth.
