    • email print
  • Bill Pekarek is the head football coach at Lansing high School. The Lions finished 4-6 and lost in the first round of the 5A playoffs to Bishop Miege.
    1. What players made the biggest impact on this year's team (on or off the field)?
Well, without question, Khalil Bailey, Krystian Abbott, Colin McQuillan and Hector Porter had big years on offense, mostly in the passing game.
    2. Leavenworth takes Mill Valley's spot in your district next year. What impact will that matchup have on the community and the team?
It should develop into quite a “rivalry game” over the years.
We have not been playing them, so I think it will be exciting for our schools to now be playing each other on a yearly basis.
    3. What positives did you see from your team this year?
Our Offense was 10 times better than a year ago. On special teams, we were better at returning kicks and punts.
    4. What improvements will you all be looking to make before next season?
Well, we need to get a lot better on defense. Getting lined up, playing our technique, using blitzes and pressure to the opponent's offense, and of course, doing a better job of tackling.
    5. What players improved the most or surprised you this season?
Khalil Bailey and Krystian Abbott connected for some huge touchdowns, while Colin McQuillan and Hector Porter had rushing and receiving yardage to compliment Bailey and Abbott.
On Defense, Alex Diaz led the team in tackles with 111. Scott Hattok had a good year despite playing with a broken right hand.
