I am sure many of you think that because I write a column about being frugal that I will be joining the masses during the Black Friday sales.
I am sure many of you think that because I write a column about being frugal that I will be joining the masses during the Black Friday sales. However, I will not be participating in the sales. I have not participated in the Black Friday madness for several years now.
There are several reasons why I do not participate in the Black Friday sales. One is because I find the day to be a crazy day for impulse buying. A lot of time people do not think about their purchases and buy items just because they are on sale.
However, it is important to ask yourself the question, "Do I really need this item?"
I also do not believe in waiting until the last minute to shop for the majority of our Christmas presents.I have almost completed all my shopping and have caught several items on drastic sales.
I also believe in purchasing items on consignment. The majority of my children's Christmas presents are used and items that I have picked up at yard sales, consignment websites and e-Bay. It gives me great pleasure to give old toys new life.
If you are going out on Friday, let me encourage you to not be an impulse buyer.
Go with a list and stick with it. Do not buy something just because it is one sale. Do not buy it if you do not have the money in the bank to cover the cost. Set a budget and if you fear you will not stick to that budget it is important to carry cash.
Remember if you truly want to be a frugal family this holiday season, do not spend more than you have.
Make sure you are saving and not getting carried away with the holidays.
