  • A woman was knocked down and stepped on in a crowd of shoppers during an early Black Friday sales event Thursday night at the Leavenworth Walmart, a police spokesman said.
The incident occurred at 8 p.m. Thursday. About 200 shoppers gathered for a sale for Beats by Dr. Dre headphones.
"Folks got a little carried away," Leavenworth Police Chief Pat Kitchens said, and there was a scuffle.
Kitchens said Walmart employed off-duty Leavenworth police officers for security as well as additional private security.
"And, it was necessary for them to intervene to break up the disturbance," the police chief said.
The 49-year-old woman who was knocked down suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital by family members.
    There were no arrests.
Kitchens said a Police Department detective will be reviewing security video from the store in an attempt to identify who is responsible for the woman's injuries.
"I don't think the victim was able to provide much detail given the circumstances," Kitchens said.
