  • To the editor:
Since United Way serves 20 nonprofit service organizations throughout Leavenworth County, we get calls from people needing help.
My assistant, Sheila Eubank, and I receive calls every day. Most of these are from young, working families with children needing help with food and utilities because good full-time jobs are not there to support a family.
Catholic Charities currently has a waiting list of 81 families for its adoption program, and other organizations are in the same situation, and running low on food, clothing and other items.
Please consider adopting a family for Christmas, or donating toys, clothing or food.
This week, I had several calls from mostly mothers saying that they just couldn't get enough money for toys or clothes for the kids for Christmas. There are several organizations in our community that take donations of clothing, toys and food.
And, thank you so much to all the churches and organizations this time of year that conduct food and clothing drives.
Your support means someone can get a hand-up in Leavenworth County, and isn't that what it's all about?
If you need more information, you can email me at unitedwaylvco@gmail.org, or call (913) 682-2592. God bless you this holiday season.
