Robert B. Spinner, 79, Lansing, Kan., passed away Sunday, December 15, 2013.
Robert B. Spinner, 79, Lansing, Kan., passed away Sunday, December 15, 2013. Robert was born August 23, 1934 in Gillian, Mo., the son of William and Alta E. (Maddox) Spinner, Sr.
He is survived by three daughters, Robin Visocsky, Lansing, Kan., Jere Burch, Idaho, Tracey (Noah) Baskin, New Jersey and one son, Steve (Katie ) Spinner, New Jersey, four grandchildren, Kylie Visocsky, Amber and Laura Burch, Brooke Baskin and one on the way. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
During high school Bob worked as a car mechanic and a deck hand on his father's riverboat. After graduating from high school in Cape Gerado, Mo., he enlisted in the Navy and spent the next 21 years serving his country both here in the continental US and abroad from Yokosuka Naval Base, Japan. He spent many of those years on board ship which was one of the parts of the Navy he loved best. He retired in 1972 as a CWO2.
After retiring from the Navy he completed his BA at San Diego State University. He then settled in New Jersey and entered the civilian world working in human resources as well as shipping and receiving. He spent many years as a Boy Scout leader, taking his troop on many adventures,
including trips along the Appalachian Trail. He only retired from that role after his son, Steve, received his Eagle Scout badge.
He retired from civilian life in 2007 came to the Lansing area in 2008.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 19, 2013 at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, December 20, 2013 at the funeral chapel.
Burial with military honors will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 23, 2013 at the Leavenworth National Cemetery.
