Virginia L. Burket, 83, left us on November 24, 2013 at her home in Leavenworth, Kan., born on May 25, 1930 to Marvin French and Rose (Byars) Watson.
Virginia L. Burket, 83, left us on November 24, 2013 at her home in Leavenworth, Kan., born on May 25, 1930 to Marvin French and Rose (Byars) Watson. Grew up on the family farm in Dukedom, Tenn. They moved to Mayfield, Ky., when she was in grade school. Her best friend was Lillie (English) Sheehan. They graduated from Mayfield High School in 1948. Later that summer Rose, Virginia and Judy Dawn (sister) moved to Topeka, Kan., and she enrolled at Washburn University. Virginia met a young airman stationed at Forbes AFB, he was George Robert Burket, Jr. After that he was transferred to Travis AFB, Calif., following him out there they were married September 22, 1950.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin June 26, 1953, her husband May 22, 1979, Rose February 22, 1992, Judy, December 29, 2012. She is survived by her daughters, Kelly (Pete), Patricia (Dennis), grandchildren, Jordan (Jamie), Leah (Beau). Virginia worked as an administrative assistant for Judge Honeyman, Judge Mitchell until her retirement in 1993. As a young woman Virginia loved to read, that opened the door for adventure in her life. She loved to travel. Hawaii was her favorite vacation destination. She got her love of fashion from her mother. She took great pride in her appearance, a snappy dresser, a looker. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held in her honor in Lansing, Kan., Community Center, 800 1st Terr., December 27, 2013 1-4 p.m.
