  • Q5 with Larry Hogan: Pioneers looking to bring same energy into 2014

    • email print
  • Larry Hogan is the longtime head coach for the Leavenworth High School boys basketball team.
The Pioneers are 3-1 after finishing second in the Citizens National Bank Tournament, which they hosted, and winning Dec. 20 at 0-2 Bishop Miege.
LHS will host 1-4 Word of Life at 5 p.m. Saturday.
Here, Hogan discusses his team thus far and moving forward.
    1. Has the winter break been an opportunity to practice and improve, or are you worried it could make the team rusty?
Hogan: “Although I would like to play more games, it does give us a chance to work as a team.”
    2. How much of the break was used for rest and how much was used for practice?
Hogan: “The state requires us to take five days off. We did bell ringing for the Salvation Army on another day to help our community, so we were actually off six days.
“When we started up, we had two-a-days for a few days and then cut it back heading into games. We took Jan. 1 off, and then hopefully (we’ll) be ready to face Word of Life on Saturday.”
    3. Have you or the team made New Year's resolutions for the rest of the season?
Hogan: “No. We just want to be the best we can be. Bring effort and energy to every practice and game.”
    4. What is the biggest area of improvement for your team?
Hogan: “Hopefully, rebounding and overall better team play.”
    5. What has been your team's biggest strength so far?
Hogan: “Our guard play has been our strength. Although, I have been surprised with the growth of some of our newer players.”
