  • To the editor:
Approximately 25 years ago, the newly formed Lansing Pride Committee organized the first Christmas Tree Basket food drive and hand-delivered food to recipients.
The project has grown significantly over the years, with the majority of the organization and work handled by Lansing city staff under the expanded Mayor's Christmas Tree Program.
Twenty-five families were generously supported by the Lansing community with food and gifts this year. The Lansing Pride Committee would like to provide special recognition to the Lansing Kayettes for their coordination of the food drive in the schools and Lansing city staff for their organization of the Angel Tree gifts and food assembly.
Thanks also to the various Lansing organizations and residents that donated food and gifts. Finally, thanks to the Lansing Lions Club, Lansing Kiwanis Club, friends, and family members that assisted in the sorting and distribution of the gifts and food.
