Daniel J. "Danny" Vargas, 66, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014.
Daniel J. "Danny" Vargas, 66, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014. He was born Oct. 13, 1947, the son of Leroy and Antonia (Zaragoza) Vargas. Danny worked at Great Plains for 33 years, retiring in 2012, and was a member of the Sons of the American Legion for more than 30 years.
Danny loved his wife, kids and family. Danny also enjoyed watching KU basketball, New York Yankees, Kansas City Chiefs and talking about life in general while drinking cold beer with friends. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball and was a pretty good catcher for a guy with bad knees. Danny will be missed by all.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Antonia, and three brothers, Leroy Charles, Thomas and Robert. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jane; daughters, Tessa Vargas, Michele Ingram, Darcie Ingram and Angie Ingram; brothers, Jerry (Mary L.) Vargas, of Salina, and Richard Vargas, of Wichita; sisters, Mary Ellen (Salvador) Soto, of Nolanville, Texas, Marie (Al) Vazquez, of Utuado, Puerto Rico, and Rose (Dennis) Anderson, of Salina; grandchildren, Christopher Dean, Cristian Denny and Cyle Fenton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
At Danny's request, direct cremation was chosen and no services will be held.
