Take back Fallujah from Islamist militias? Been there. Done that.

As I write in an editorial today, the fact that Fallujah and Ramadi are in “al-Qaida affiliated” – whatever that means – hands underscores the folly of the enterprise from the beginning. It’s the Iraqi government’s failure, and it’s the Iraqi people’s turn to rescue their country.

Meanwhile, this week’s most-likely-to-run-against-Hillary, ex-Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer fired a shot across the bow on the topic of Iraq. Speaking – in Iowa, by no coincidence – he said

“Anybody who runs in this cycle, whether they are Democrats or Republicans, if they were the United States Senate and they voted with George Bush to go to Iraq when I would say about 98 percent of America knows that it was a folly, that it was a waste of treasure and blood, and if they voted to go to Iraq there will be questions for them on the left and from the right.”

This should be interesting. Will the Republicans call for another invasion?
