  • Ethel Duree, born June 26, 1925, a daughter of Joseph and Agnes Summers passed from this realm into the waiting arms of her creator on Monday January 13, 2014.
    But for short absences, traveling with her husband Bernard Duree during WWII, whom she married on February 14, 1942, Ethel spent all of her live as a resident of Leavenworth, Kansas.
    Ethel and Bernard were owner and operators of the Unique Cleaners, located in the 300 block of Shawnee. She also worked as a ticket agent for the Leavenworth Bus Terminal, once located in the 300 block of Cherokee. Ethel retired from Civil Service, Fort Leavenworth, Army Print Plant, after 30-plus years of service. She received numerous work performance awards during her period with the Department of Defense.
    Ethel, at one time, was a member of the White Shrine order of Masonic Lodge Number 10, Leavenworth. Her other interests included playing a variety of card games, word puzzles, and occasional visits to the local casinos. She was a talented and skilled tailor and seamstress. She was also an excellent and avid knitter, winning awards for her work.
    Husband, Bernard, preceded her in death on November 7, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, their wives; two sisters, Margie Land, and Linnie Wiggins.
    Ethel is survived by her three sons, Bill and his wife, Linda; Gary; Bernie and fiancee, Leslie; grandchildren, Devlon Duree, Eloy Duree, Leroy Alencio, Rosie Meier, Dominic Duree, Joann Duree, Duana Ornelas and numerous great grandchildren.
    Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Davis Funeral Chapel 513 Shawnee. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2014 at the funeral chapel. The Rev. Lynn Dickson will officiate.
