  • A Leavenworth teenager was ordered to lay on the floor Monday afternoon as a burglar went through his residence, a police spokesman said.
The burglar left without taking anything. The teen was not injured.
The incident was reported at 1:51 p.m. in the 500 block of North Broadway.
A 17-year-old boy reported to police he had been upstairs in his residence. He came downstairs and encountered the burglar, said Maj. Dan Nicodemus, Leavenworth Police Department deputy chief.
"The suspect demanded to know where money and jewelry were located," Nicodemus said.
The teen told the burglar his family didn't have money or jewelry in the house.
The burglar told the boy to lay on the floor, and the suspect continued to search through the house. The suspect, who never displayed a weapon, eventually left.
Police could not find signs of forced entry at the residence, Nicodemus said.
The burglar was described as a black man who is between 40 and 50 years old. He is about 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 220 pounds. He was wearing a black stocking cap and a dark blue trench coat. He also had a cast or boot on his left foot.
