  • When Prestige Home Care of Kansas was formed in 2007, the Leavenworth business had one employee and an ad in the phonebook.
Today, the home health care company has an office staff of three full-time employees and one part-time person. And, the company boasts a field staff of 30 people.
The company was recognized Thursday by the Leavenworth-Lansing Area Chamber of Commerce with the Business of the Year Award.
The award was presented during the Chamber's annual banquet at Riverfront Community Center.
Larry Martin, one of the company's founders, accepted the award along with office manager Jeanette Drury and staffing coordinator Carolyn Clayton.
Prestige Home Care had its first full year of operation in 2008. The following year, the business grew by 500 percent and has remained at or above that level since that time, according to information from the Chamber.
The company's total payroll since 2008 has exceeded $2 million.
Another award presented during the banquet was the Ambassador of the Year Award.
That award went to Josh Hoppes, who is the immediate past chairman of the Chamber Board.
"It was very much appreciated," he said of the award.
Hoppes said Chamber ambassadors participate in ribbon cuttings and the recruiting and retention of Chamber members.
"They are where I cannot be," Chamber President Jennifer Daly said of ambassadors.
She called the ambassadors the working arm of the Chamber.
