  • To the editor:
Allan Boyce tried his best in his letter of March 4 to make the searching for a superintendent for our school district from out of our region seem to be an impossible task.
If the source he quotes, but never names, from the Kansas Association of School Boards truly did state that Leavenworth’s school district is “not competitive enough to attract candidates from much more than a regional pool,” that person should be fired for skewing information in a manner unfavorable to Kansans.
For school districts our size, the pay for our superintendents registers in the top 20 percent of salaries. Who would not want to facilitate their career by taking a top dollar job for a school district our size?
Many of the top education programs, which graduate superintendents ready for employment, in the nation are located in cities similar to Leavenworth in their nearness to large cities, affordable housing, and entertainment.
If the USD 453 School Board is placing their ads carefully, strategically, throughout the U.S., such as in the cities where such quality education programs exist, there is no reason for them not to be able to attract a quality superintendent from the national pool.
KASB representatives have given Leavenworth bad and even incorrect information in the past, so I recommend the school board members think critically about anything and everything those reps advise them to do.
