  • Leavenworth man sentenced for drug crimes

  • A Leavenworth man was sentenced Friday to 18.5 years in prison for drug-related charges, according to a news release from the Leavenworth County Attorney's Office.

  • A Leavenworth man was sentenced Friday to 18.5 years in prison for drug-related charges, according to a news release from the Leavenworth County Attorney's Office.
    Robert J. Jefferson III, 38, was sentenced in Leavenworth County District Court for eight felony charges.
    He pleaded guilty Jan. 31 to crimes committed May 15 and Nov. 22, according to the release.
    On May 15, the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Jefferson's residence. Officers found more than 5,000 grams of marijuana along with methamphetamine, hydrocodone, oxycodone, other miscellaneous pills and almost $14,000 in cash. Multiple scales, boxes of baggies and a food saver vacuum sealing system also were seized as well as other paraphernalia items. The residence was within 1,000 feet of a school. A 3-year-old child was living in the residence.
    Jefferson posted bond in the case and on Nov. 22, another search warrant was executed at his residence by the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office. This time, methamphetamine was found in a toy police car. Scales, baggies and a food saver vacuum sealing system also were seized among other paraphernalia items, according to the release.
