Pasture ground is greening up every so slowly. Understanding some prescribed burning needs to take place in a contracted time for area farmers, county officials asks everyone pay close attention to the weather and what changes are in store for the hours and days ahead of your burn.
There has been a number of large grass fires throughout the county that has erupted from fires that were to be under control but weather changed and caused the fire to get out of control quickly, causing extensive property loss. Residents must obtain a burn permit daily for a prescribed burn or any burning of any kind in Leavenworth County.
Obtain a burn permit by calling the day you wish to burn into the Sheriff’s Office at 682-5724 or 724-1313.
