The Leavenworth High School baseball team is 4-1 after winning Saturday's Chris Naething Memorial Spring Classic at Sportsfield.
The Pioneers beat Topeka High School 7-6 to start the tournament. Lansing High School got a 5-2 win versus Shawnee Mission North to advance to the title game against the Pioneers.
Leavenworth defeated Lansing 7-2 to claim the tournament title. Topeka beat Shawnee Mission North 6-2 to take third place.
The tournament raised more than $700 for the Caring Bridge charity. Leavenworth head coach Joe Allison said the tournament is put on to "celebrate and remember the life of Chris Naething", who is the mother of former Leavenworth pitcher Ben Naething.
"One day each year, we take a moment as a group to revisit the memories we shared with Chris, and remind ourselves of the wonderful mother, wife, friend and baseball fan she was during her time here with us," Allison said.
The Pioneers are scheduled to play at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Olathe South. Lansing is scheduled to play at 4 p.m. Thursday at Turner.
